Installing the JP Cycles Front Directional Relocation Kit

This is a nice low price kit to relocate your directionals.  However, it comes as a bag-o-parts with no instruction.

Here is my installation on a 2007 Low Rider.

1) Remove TORX bolt from headlight bracket (not needed in installation, save for future if you want) and disconnect the directional.  Save the original directional 1/4" allen head bolt.  When you disconnect the directional from the handlebars, you will probably destroy the wiring clips that connect the wires to the handlebars.  They are Harley part number 70345-84 and they are $1.00 each.

Handlebar Clips destroyed when pulled out!

2) Here's what I used.  I found it necessary to use 2 additional washers, one 5/16" lock and one 5/16" (I used a stainless). Also, I used a 5/16" nylon washer as a spacer, it isn't in this picture.  I don't think Harley bikes need the longer bolts (the JP kit comes with 2 LONG bolts and 2 SHORT bolts) supplied unless you  want the directionals to stick out further.

3) Here's how this thing goes together.  The short JP Cycle bolt which will screw into the bike gets the supplied chrome spacer and I used threadlock.  The Harley directional bolt is installed in the picture (but not pushed all the way in).  The 2 washers will go in like in the next picture.

5) Washers will go in here.  It isn't obvious, but the will go into the recess and not be visible in the final installation.  Too much of the Harley bolt is left if you don't use the 2 washers and the Harley bolt it would not thread all the way into the directional, thus the need for the washers.

6) Here it is assembled and ready to screw into the bike. The directional light has been tightened down and you can see the nylon washer to keep the 2 chrome pieces from scratching.  A by-product is that even with the Harley directional bolt tightened done real good, you can still rotate the directional a bit for final aiming.  I think without that nylon spacer, that would be tough.

7)  Follow up picture.

8) Close-up all tightened down

9) Front view after tightening.

10) Side view

11) Bike Front View

12) Extra energy, Boss Bag install since it's so nice out.

Good Luck.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday 2008.  Go Patriots! (follow up, oh well, congrats NY)
